Stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in a multilevel atom

چکیده
We present a general formalism for describing stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in a multilevel atom. The atom is assumed to have two ground state manifolds a and b and an excited state manifold e, and the adiabatic passage is carried out by resonantly driving the a-e and b-e transitions with time-dependent fields. Our formalism gives a complete description of the adiabatic passage process and can be applied to systems with arbitrary numbers of degenerate states in each manifold and arbitrary couplings of the a-e and b-e transitions. We illustrate the formalism by applying it to both a simple toy model and to adiabatic passage in the cesium atom.

Conversion of 40 K - 87 Rb mixtures into stable molecules
We study the conversion of K and Rb atoms into stable molecules through the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage STIRAP in photoassociation assisted with Feshbach resonance. Starting with the meanfield Lagrange density, we show that the atom-to-molecule conversion efficiency by STIRAP aided by Feshbach resonance is much larger than that by bare Feshbach resonance. We also study the influence of t...

The efficiency of converting two-species fermionic atoms into bosonic molecules is investigated in terms of mean-field Lagrangian density. We find that the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage technique aided by Feshbach resonance is more effective than the bare Feshbach resonance for Li atoms rather than K atoms. We also generally consider the symmetry and its relevant conservation law, which en...

We propose a cavity-QED scheme that can deterministically generate EinsteinPodosky-Rosen polarization-entangled photon pairs. A four-level tripod atom successively couples to two high-Q optical cavities possessing polarization degeneracy, assisted by a classical π-polarized pump field. The stimulated Raman adiabatic passage process in the atom-cavity system is used to produce the polarization-e...

We implement high-efficiency coherent excitation to a Rydberg state using stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in a cold-atom electron and ion source. We achieve an efficiency of 60% averaged over the laser excitation volume with a peak efficiency of 82%, a 1.6 times improvement relative to incoherent pulsed-laser excitation. Using pulsed electric field ionization of the Rydberg atoms we create e...

We demonstrate light-pulse atom interferometry with large-momentum-transfer atom optics based on stimulated Raman transitions and frequency-swept adiabatic rapid passage. Our atom optics have produced momentum splittings of up to 30 photon recoil momenta in an acceleration-sensitive interferometer for laser cooled atoms. We experimentally verify the enhancement of phase shift per unit accelerat...
